London Bus News Roundup - Week Starting 17/05/21

Abellio London

This weeks round of tender results has seen Abellio retain the 415 with existing New Routemasters and route U5 also retained, albeit with brand new electric double decks. However this also came with the news of  a new depot in Hayes, which is to replace the current depot at Hyde Gardens. The new depot will have a capacity of 56 and will be situated on Dalton Way in Hayes. More info about the new site and restrictions the site faces can be found in the document below:

Arriva London

This weeks round of tender results has seen route 432 be re-acquired off of Go Ahead, it will be using the remainder of the 319s HVs once that route converts to electric, with the rest heading to the recently retained 335. The 432s new contract with Arriva will start on the 2nd April 2022.

Go Ahead London

This weeks round of tender results has seen Stockwell (SW)'s route 432 be lost back to Arriva, whom they gained it from back in 2015. This further adds to the losses sustained over recent years, the last gain being a few months after the 432 was gained, in the form of the 322 (also currently up for tender). Routes lost by SW since then include: 19*, 196, 249, 315 & 333. The 432s last day at Go Ahead will be the 1st April 2022

E200s SE7-9 & 17, and E400s E39, 41, 50, 53 & 55 have been transferred to Go South West

Metroline

The role out of hydrogens picked up this week, with WHD2720-2723/2726 all entering service. However so far usually only 1 is out at a time, the only time this has not been the case so far was on the 20/05 when WHD2722 & 2725 were out together during the morning.

RATP Group

Route 148 was retained in this weeks set of tender results. It is set to have a PVR cut of -7, dropping from a PVR of 24 to 17.

Stagecoach London

This weeks round of tenders saw route 549 be lost by West Ham (WH) garage to Sullivan Buses from South Mimms (SM) garage.

The newly painted open top buses for the City Sightseeing & Julia Travel collaboration with Stagecoach entered service this week also.

Sullivan Buses

In an interesting turn of events Sullivan Buses have gained route 549 from Stagecoach East London's West Ham (WH) garage in this weeks set of tender results. The new contract is set to start on the 12th March 2022, with an existing diesel single deck bus.

Tower Transit

7 more OEs are yet to enter service at Westbourne Park (X), with some still at the factory, with OEs 34030 & 34031 being the latest into service on the 20/05

The Optare Fiasco

Intro On Friday the 22nd May a fire broke out at Metroline Potters Bar [PB] depot, with the bus going up in flames being an Optare Metrodecker, this has since led to the grounding of every fleet of these vehicles in the UK since, however this is not the first time the Metrodecker has faced an issue... Route 134 Back in 2019, the 43 & 134 were the first 2 double deck routes to go electric upon tender, both were to get different batches of vehicles. The 43 received 37 Enviro 400 City EV vehicles (BDEs) at Holloway [HT] garage and the 134 received 31 Optare Metrodecker EV vehicles (OMEs) at Potters Bar [PB], as seen below: OME2663 & OME2667 by VP500 However, from the very start the 134 was plagued by issues. The batch of buses began arriving very late, however the 134 had already gained a temporary allocation of hybrids due to the ULEZ coming into force in April 2019, which affected the 134 at the time due to it terminating at Tottenham Court Road, which was within the zone. Route 240

  Route 240  Introduction to the 240 The 240 is a very quaint little route running through the quieter suburbs of North West London, it also happens to be Londons oldest, least changed route, having not had a single routing change since introduction in 1934. Routing The 240 takes the following routing: Edgware Station Hale Lane Mill Hill Broadway Station The Ridgeway (Also referred to as Mill Hill Village) Mill Hill East Station Holders Hill Hendon Brent Street Golders Green Station Brief History Whilst the routing for this route has always remained the same, it was initially split into 2 sections due to a low bridge at Mill Hill Broadway. The split saw the Mill Hill Broadway to Golders Green section of the route use double deck AEC Regent III RTs, whereas the Edgware to Mill Hill Broadway part used single deck Leyland Tiger TDs.
